Keeping yourself strong in a diet is not easy, not even in a ketogenic diet. There are many situations where you feel the temptation and you fail in your diet. When you meet with friends in your home, watching a football match for example, everybody wants some tasty snacks and it’s really hard to say NO.
Most typical snacks are full of carbohydrates and would ruin your ketogenic diet progress: chips, corn nachos and tortillas, pizza bites, onion rings (with tons of breadcrumbs)…are some examples of snacks you will find in any party.
To make easier this fight, we are here to recommend you 5 delicious low carb snacks that will fit GREAT in your ketogenic diet.
1. Buffalo chicken wings
Here comes the classic. Hot and spicy, easy to eat in a party or meeting and full of flavour. Unlike another typical sauces as BBQ, sweet chilli or honey mustard that contain high levels of sugar and carbohydrates, buffalo sauce is made of butter, hot sauce and spices. Totally ketogenic friendly.
There are two ways to make them: fried or oven baked. First way is faster, maybe tastier and can add some fat to your macros if u need it. Second way is cleaner to cook, lower in calories and also delicious. If you want to lose weight, we recommend you the oven.
First of all, make a dry rub:
- Cayenne pepper (if you want it even hotter)
- Garlic powder
Sprinkle this mix over your chicken wings and put them in the oven @ 180ºC. Cook them for 25 minutes and turn them over. Cook for 25 more minutes or until they are crispy!
Meanwhile, let’s prepare the buffalo sauce:
- 1 part of melted unsalted butter
- 1 part of hot sauce
- A splash of white vinegar
- A few drops of worcestershire sauce
- A pinch of carlic powder
Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and let this mix simmer for 5 minutes.
Once all is well done, coat your crispy wings with the extremely delicious and hot buffalo sauce. And enjoy them.
2. Bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers
Another spicy and low carb delicacy! Vitamin from the peppers and fat from cheese and bacon. They are absolutely amazing, you will impress your guests andthey are prefect for your ketogenic diet.
Let’s start making a deep cut in the pepper and removing seeds from the jalapeños. Seed are really hot, so will be too much for some people of you don’t remove them. Clean them inside and reserve.
For the cheese filling:
- Cream cheese
- Grated mozzarella
- Grated cheddar
- Finely chopped chives
- Black pepper
- A pinch of paprika
Mix all the ingredients really well and fill the jalapeño peppers. Yes, all this is ketogenic diet friendly and low carb 🙂
Once your peppers are filled, wrap them with a bacon slice.
Put the wrapped jalapeños in a preheated oven (190ºC) until peppers are cooked and tender and bacon is golden and crispy (around 35 minutes). Mouthwatering.
3. Zucchini and parmesan chips
Easiest snack of this list, and also healthiest one. Zucchini is full of vitamin and fiber and will help you to lose weight because of his really low calories.
You will need:
- Parmesan cheese (just a touch to taste)
- Black pepper
- Onion powder
- Smoked paprika
Let’s go with this easy recipe. First of all, cut the zucchini in thin slices.
Second step: mix the parmesan cheese with the spices.
Then put all the slices in a baking tray and sprinkle with the cheese and spices mix. Cook them in the oven at 150ºC for 15-20 minutes or until zucchini slices are golden and crispy.
Even more delicious than classic potato chips, and very low carb.
4. Marinated olives
Require a few days to marinate, so it’s a slow recipe. But you can make a lot of them at once! Perfect to snacking, and ketogenic friendly. Here come the ingredients:
- Green and black olives
- Olive oil
- Garlic cloves
- Lemon zest
- Bay leaf
- Red pepper flakes
Put he olives in a big bowl, coat them with a generous splash of olive oil and put all the ingredients together.
Cover the container with plastic wrap and let it rest and marinate in the fridge for at least 48 hours. They will taste even better if they stay in the fridge for 4 days.
5. Ham and cheese wrapped white asparagus
To finish this list, we bring a really easy to make recipe which is perfect for summer. Refreshing, light and low carb. You will enjoy while you keep you do ketogenic diet.
- White asparagus
- Cooked ham (very thin slices)
- Cream cheese
First of all, we will prepare the cream cheese spread. Crush some walnuts, until grounded. Then, mix them with the cream cheese and add pepper or another spice if you like.
Take a ham slice, and spread the cheese mixture over the whole surface. Take a asparagus and wrap it with the smeared ham slice.
